Nepalese Culture

Ministry of Tourism first came into existence in 2035 BS (1978 AD). In 2039 (1982 AD), Civil Aviation was also merged into the Ministry of Tourism and it became the Ministry of Tourism & Civil Aviation. In 2057 (2000 AD), Culture was also integrated in the Ministry and now it is called the Ministry of Tourism & Civil Aviation (MOTCA). Ministry of Tourism & Civil Aviation is headed by Minister for Tourism & Civil Aviation.

Function of the Culture Preservation & Promotion :

Policy and planning for preservation of culture
Implementation of policy, planning and progress
Liaison with national and international agencies like UNESCO
Bilateral Cultural Agreements
Archaeological Excavation, collection and preservation
Research and investigation
Policy relating to issuance of permit for exportable curio good
Policy with regard to various religious and ethnic groups, tribes, languages, dialects, scripts, arts, culture and literature
Coordination with Department of Archaeology, various boards, trusts and other organizations related to culture.

The chief of the Division is Joint Secretary (Technical service). Under him there are two sections :

Archaeology Section and Culture Promotion and National and International Coordination Section each headed by respective Under Secretaries
