Development Committees
1. Tara Gaon Development Committee
Tara Gaon Development Board (TGDC) is
a government organization under the Ministry
of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation.
It was set up in September 1977 under
the Development Board Act 2013 B.S.
Tara Gaon is unique in its comprehensive
concepts. The main objective of the Board
is to promote Nepalese Arts and culture
and prorogate the Nepalese way of life
for the sustained development of tourism
in the country with focus, at present,
on rural cultural and pilgrimage tourism.
While promoting international peace, friendship
and understanding in its most humble way
TGDC is committed to contribute towards
alleviating poverty and improve the quality
of life of the rural people in Nepal through
community based rural tourism.
To promote tourism with a new cultural
dimension and dynamism, TGDC developed
Tara Gaon Cultural Tourism Center, the
five star super deluxe hotels in Nepalese
style, having 300 rooms at Bauddha in
a joint venture partnership with the private
sectors. It is now being managed by Hyatt
international, a globally renowned American
Hotel Chain.
Besides, TGDC at present is running three
small resorts operating directly under
its control at Nogarkot, Kakani and Pokhara.
With a view to promote tourism and to
lengthen the tourists stay, TGDC has decided
to upgrade the quality and expand the
capacity of these resorts in close cooperation
with the private sector.
TGDC has now decided to take a lead role
on promoting cultural village tourism
with local community participation and
in Joint-venture participation with the
private sector and in close cooperation
with the Nepal Tourism Board.
The noble approach of TGDC
As the only government operational institution
in the tourism industry, the other noble
approach of this board is to utilize its
profits in promoting integrated and intensive
multi dimensional community development
programmes in the rural areas so that
the benefits of tourism can percolate
down to the grass root level, and thus
help poverty alleviation, which is the
top priority goal of NG. Accordingly,
TGDC has launched a special village tourism
program. This program has focused basically
on community development through tourism
with participation from the local community.
