The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, the only regulatory authority of the State boasts of playing a very catalytic role in the country's socio-economy and tourism promotion. Its vision is to make air services an effective vehicle of high economic growth through wide scale tourism promotion and accessibility. Therefore, it is set to fulfill its mission to ensure safe, secured, efficient, standard and quality service in civil aviation and airport operations.

The primary responsibilities of the Civil Aviation Authority are to regulate air commerce in order to promote its development and safety; operate, promote and develop civil aviation and a national system of airport; manage navigable airspace within the Kingdom of Nepal and regulate air traffic in the interests of safety and efficiency; install, operate and maintain air navigation facilities; and develop and operate air traffic control and navigation systems for both civil and military aircraft.

There is network of 47 airports, including one international and four hub airports. Three more are under construction.

87 per cent tourists enter Nepal via Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). Following the adoption of a liberal aviation policy in 1992, construction, expansion and development of airports have become more significant in light of substantial increase in fleet and passenger strength for which TIA has positioned itself as a leading centre of aviation in Nepal.

There are 13 international airlines comprising operating at TIA serving 19 destinations of 14 countries.

On domestic front 8 airlines are providing schedule services and 6 companies are operating helicopter services. There are also 2 aviation sports companies.

The State has concluded bilateral air services agreement and MOU with 34 countries offering an annual share of 2297528 air seats one way.

Given the backdrop of air traffic demand, the state embraces an open door policy to encourage international and or domestic investors to study the feasibility and construction of a second international airport in Nepal.

The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) is a National Organization newly established by an act of Parliament in the form of partnership between Government of Nepal, and the private sector tourism industry of Nepal. The NTB will now be responsible for all the marketing activities aimed at promoting Nepal as a premier destination. Although the initial phase of the functioning of the Board will be focused in marketing and promotion, the ultimate aim of the NTB is to take over regulatory and product development activities as well. The functioning of the NTB has the commitment and the support of the Government as well as the dynamism of the private sector. The Board is an autonomous institution consisting of 11 Board Members (the Secretary at the MOCTCA as Chairman and 4 ex-officio members from Government Ministries and 6 from among the private sector representatives including the Chief Executive Officer). The Board has been created to provide a vision drawn leadership, continuity of promotional efforts, good management and guidance to Nepal’s tourism industry. The funds for the NTB will be collected from the entire tourism related businesses in the form of tourist service fee, thereby keeping it financially independent. The Board is working towards repositioning the image of the country so as to market and promote Nepal aggressively and extensively both domestically and internationally. The best fact about Nepal is, though small in size, has immense cultural and natural diversity and is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. The friendliness and hospitality of the people of Nepal, where guests are treated as Gods is an added beauty which other tourist attracting countries fail to provide; the variety of exciting adventure activities including trekking, mountaineering, rafting and jungle safari combined with culture that epitomizes peace and harmony; art and craft; songs and dances make a visit to Nepal a memorable experience. We feel proud and honored to welcome you to Nepal.
